A GAMIFICATION CONCEPT
FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

This is a result of a school project where I studied the elements of gamificiation. I wanted to take something negative: The public transportation in Holland where everybordy has to check-in with their travel cards and turn it into something positive: Use those check-ins to visualise their travel pattern with a game.

RESEARCH

GAME MECHANICS
After my research on gamification I found something very inspiring: With gamification you can change something that is negative into something that is positive. After some brainstorming I came up with game mechanics that would motivate people / have fun with the application service.

GAME RULES
On the second poster I designed the rules and perks for different classes.

For example:
If you are a
commuter, you get more points for traveling outside of your regular houres and stations.
LOGO

The name trails stands for the "breadcrum trail" you leave on your public transportation card. It sounded like a good name for an app and because the game is based on that trail I decided to use it.

In the background of the header / video you see all types of tracks / roads explaining trails is for public transportation.

THE CONCEPT VIDEO

In the concept video I wanted to explain how the service would work In a clear and simpel way.

If you have any questions about this project
you can always

VISUALISATION
The homescreen shows your travel status and a history of the awarded points and achievements.
The dashboard gives you a deeper look in your travel history and has a menu where you can view the leaderboards and check out your badges!
The gamification element was very important to visualise in order to motivate people and let them have fun in completing challenges
